LOCAL HAPPENINGS AND CALENDAR OF EVENTS

This page is dedicated to give out information on the local events, public notices or anything that can be published on here free of charge for the benefit of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and all residents on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Most information here will be Eastern Shoshone tribal related since there are many other news outlets out there. If you find this interesting and informational then it is something that will be continued. Look out for other news such as for health later as things develop.

Christmas Bazaar: The Eastern Shoshone Boys & Girls Club will be holding its annual Christmas Bazaar at Rocky Mountain Hall. The bazaar will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007 going from 6-9 p.m. There will be crafts and baked goods booths. Anyone interested in participating should call the Boys & Girls Club at 332-2713. A number of games and contests will be featured, such as a tree decorating contest, Christmas Baby contest, Best Gingerbread Crib contest and Best Christmas Dog contest.

General Council Meeting: A General Council Meeting is to be held December 15th, 2007 at the Rocky Mountain Hall.

Expertise Sought: The Eastern Shoshone 477 Program is seeking a person interested in teaching a culture class dealing with traditional hand drum construction. For more information contact Sheryl at 332-8052.

Per Capita Payments Set: The following are the scheduled per capita payments for members of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes for December and January. The December 13th payments will be combined into one check. The 13th per capita payment will be distributed to the enrolled member and not to their per capita obligations. For those with bank assignments, the payment will have to go to their banks. Each enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe will receive $250 for Dec. 1st, Dec. 13th and Janury per capita payment.

Each enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe will receive $80 for Dec. 1st. $160 for the 13th payment and $100 for January payment.

Planners are urging women in the community and beyond to come and join them. Foster Parents Needed: The Eastern Shoshone Department of Social Services is currently recruiting foster parents. Many Shoshone children need temporary placement with caring and nurturing foster parents. For futher information, contact the ESDSS Foster Team at 332-6591/6592 or 856-7870.

CONTACT SOLUTION RECALL: AMO the makers of Complete Contact Lens Solution, has issued a recall of Complete Moisture Plus contact lens solutions. Those who are currently using this solution should discontinue use immediately, I.H.S. says. I.H.S. contact lens patients are asked to switch to Renu Multipurpose, Opti-Free solution, Aquify solution. Those patients who have used a Complete Moisture Solution Plus contact lens product and are experiencing any problems with their eyes should consult their eye care practitioner immediately.-I.H.S.

BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT: A monthly bereavement support group sponsored by Little Wind Hospice will meet at Lander's Trinity Episcopal Church, 860 S. 3rd St. the first meeting was set for June 4 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. For more information on these group meetings call 332-2393 or 856-4127-Little Wind Hospice

HELP FOR JOB SEEKERS: Casey Barnum of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services will be at the Shoshone TANF Office in Fort Washakie on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. to assist those in need of employment. He will also be at the Ethete Tribal College at the Computer Lab on Thursdays from 1-2 p.m.-Wyoming Dept. of Workforce Services

Barrasso seeking interns: U.S. Senator John Barrasso, R-Wyo., currently is accepting appplications for his Washington D.C. internship program for spring 2008. The program which lasts four months is designed to give Wyoming youth an insiders look into the working of the United States Government. Interns receive a monthly salary and are responsible for their round-trip airfare and living expenses while in D.C. Barasso offers three different congressional intern sessions each year. In addition to the fall session, there are two four month sessions held during the spring and summer semesters. The dates fr the spring session are Jan. 7-May 16. Applicants are typicaly residents of Wyoming, in college, and are 21 years of age or older. Cnadidates should apply online. The application can be found on Barasso's Web site by choosing the "Students" tab on the left and then clicking on "Intern Program". For more info. call Katharine Kanz at 202-224-6441. The cut off date for application will be Nov. 9th.
